| Top Class Support for Conor |
|
Even though Larne swimmer Conor Leaney had considered American and British universities before opting for the University of Ulster at Jordanstown, he is now absolutely sure that he picked the best option. Conor is now studying for a BSc (Hons.) in Sports Technology at the University of Ulster which is also the home of the Sports Institute Northern Ireland (SINI).
The Sports Institute Northern Ireland (SINI) has an important role to play in preparing Northern Ireland's top athletes for the demands of international competition. Conor has secured a place at SINI due to his inclusion in SportNI’s Lottery funded Athlete Support Programme. Conor is a member of SINI’s Major Games Programme. The Major Games Programme works with sports that participate in the global multi-sport events: the Olympic / Paralympic Games and Commonwealth Games. Conor’s weekly programme includes 2-3 Strength and Conditioning Sessions,1 Core Stability circuit and 1- 3 massage sessions. SINI staff work closely with Swim Ulster and Swim Ireland as well as Larne coach Raymond Skillen and even travel with Conor to meets, providing the support Conor requires to compete on a world stage. Since joining SINI Conor has been very impressed with the professionalism and expertise of the staff there. Conor said, “the support is truly world class and I look forward to achieving more Personal Best times. With this sort of assistance, there may be no need for future Ulster high performance swimmers to leave the country”. Conor thanks Sports NI and Swim Ulster as well as SINI and the University of Ulster for their continued support and belief.
